HOW DID THIS HAPPEN? (by Sheldon Jones)

The opening words of the title song on this album offer the best explanation: “I’m just an old man who started writing songs – I can’t say how or why.” When I retired, I decided to take up the guitar after 40 some years. I bought a guitar at a local shop and hired Chris Julian, the guy who sold it to me to give me lessons. Our relationship turned into a partnership and friendship. Chris became a mentor, encourager, teacher of music theory as well as guitar and vocal practicality (we realized my old fingers and scratchy voice just would not cooperate all the time). To everyone’s surprise, I started writing songs. Chris helped me refine the songs and urged me to record them. He opened doors to other local musicians and I began to refer to them as Loco Lobo. The eclectic group of professional musicians and vocalists patiently worked with me and made the songs I had written become a reality. They made this album possible and helped an old man fulfill a dream.

The album is dedicated to: My Barefoot Shelley who has stood by me for more than 43 years. She raised me along with our three sons and is the best wife, mom, grandmother and friend in the entire world. And to my aunt, Cherry Columbine Jones. In 1965, she gave me my first real guitar – a 1917 Gibson L-3 along with a few lessons to get me started. It was an amazing gift that took me years to fully appreciate. I still have The Gibson.
